INFLAMMATION and WHY Fish Oil is SO IMPORTANT
IS PAIN REDUCING YOUR ENJOYMENT OR VITALITY FOR LIFE?
Unfortunately this is a very common experience for a vast majority of people on a daily basis.
Whether it’s a dull persistent low ache, a sharp or dull persistent pain, it’s your body’s way of telling you that inflammation is present and it’s there for a reason!
Inflammation can feel like a fire has been lit within your skin and this can be caused by injury, illness or many other conditions such as arthritis, digestive disorders, muscular aches, period pain, headaches, hormones, stress and anxiety, lifestyle choices etc.
These all help to keep that fire of inflammation burning.
Inflammation may be short term from an injury or irritation or can progress and linger, flaring up at certain times and eventually result in “chronic” (long term) pain. When it progresses to chronic paint it will start to do more harm than good.
Inflammation (Inflammatio – which actually means in latin “to set on fire”) typically is presented as redness, heat and swelling and with accompanying pain levels.
It’s the body’s natural response to something that has caused irritation to the tissue and the cells in the body.
A good, high quality Fish Oil is a natural and effective option to help you reduce the pain of inflammation.
Pharmaceutical Anti-Inflammatories (which are commonly used to decrease pain and inflammation) carry the risk of upsetting and damaging the sensitive microbiome that is your gut flora. Creating another whole swag of problems for you to deal with whilst your inflammation is trying to heal.
Fish Oil helps to dampen down the fire of inflammation as it contains Omega 3 (Essential Fatty Acids EPA and DHA) which have been shown to have pain relieving and anti-inflammatory effects in sufferers of pain and inflammation.
These EFA’s increase the permeability of the cell walls thereby allowing the anti-inflammatory actions of the fish oil to do the work it was meant for.
Keep in mind they need to be taken at consistent therapeutic levels (along with any other specifically targeted additional supplementation) and this can be discussed with Trudy, your Naturopath.
BUT NOT ALL FISH OILS ARE CREATED EQUAL!
Insist on using only fish oils of the highest quality and purity, ensuring they are well below the Australian Allowable Standards for contaminants such as heavy metals, pesticides and solvents. Also, check they are sourced from the small, cold water fish for optimal health benefits.
YES, IT’S TRUE – FRESH FOOD CAN ALSO BE ANTI-INFLAMMATORY
Western diets high in sugar and processed foods and high in “bad” fats (hydrogenated and trans-fatty) are pro-inflammatory (encourage inflammation!), so making GOOD choices WILL create lasting healthy, eating habits for life.
- Include herbs and spices in your cooking – especially ginger and turmeric
- Eat seasonal and fresh fruit and try to find organic as often as possible
- Minimise consumption of processed, refined carbohydrates (eg. white bread, pasta, cereals, cakes, packaged foods)
- Choose 2 serves of fresh fruits and at least 3 cups of fresh vegetables daily.
Make a decision NOW. If you suspect you may have a gluten or dairy sensitivity, then eliminate the products for at least 4 weeks. Now, IF this has you complaining that you just can’t live without this food then chances are you DO have an allergy to it which is triggering and complicating the inflammation processes.
DON’T LET IT RUIN YOUR LIFE – SIMPLE SMALL CHANGES WILL, I PROMISE, MAKE A BIG DIFFERENCE – YOU’LL SEE!
With the support of your naturopath, who will also prescribe specific, targeted, system-enhancing herbs, lifestyle and dietary changes (and small steps at a time if needed) you can undo the cycle of pain and inflammation that fuels your life.
